Percussion Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), was born in Florianópolis - SC (1981) and raised in Brasilia, starting his musical studies at the Music School of Brasilia (EMB), having as first teachers Paulo Marques and Wellington Vidal.
PhD in Music/Performance at the University of Aveiro studing with Miquel Bernat (ESP) and Evgueni Zouldilkine (RUS), was a fellow student of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) of Portugal. His Master Degree was also at the same institution and with the same tutors. He is graduated in Percussion at the São Paulo State University (UNESP), being a former member of the Grupo PIAP and having studied with John Boudler, Carlos Stasi and Eduardo Gianesella .
Fernando Chaib won several awards, which include: "I Young Performers Festival" of the Municipality of São Paulo in 2003 ; Award 2003 APCA (São Paulo Association of Art Critics ) for "Best Chamber Music Group ," with the Grupo PIAP, First Prize in Vibraphone at the IV International Percussion Competition PAS - Italy (Percussive Arts Society, Italy 2006); ProAC 09 Recording CD (2007), at the Secretary of Culture of São Paulo (SP), 1st Prize in CIMCA '11 (International Competition of Chamber Music "Cidade de Alcobaça " - Portugal , 2011) with Simantra Percussion Ensemble; Award FUNARTE (National Foundation of Arts) Artistic Improvement in Music 2012 and Award FUNARTE Didactics Concerts 2013 and 2014. He does Musical Direction of Theatre and Dance perfomances in Brazil and Portugal. He worked with groups like São Paulo City Ballet (Brazil), Quorum Ballet (Portugal) and Dance Company of Aveiro (Portugal). His discography has over ten CDs recorded with orchestras and chamber music groups.
He does concerts as a soloist and chamber musician, and is frequently invited to give Master Classes and percussion and chamber music courses in american continent and Europe, for example being a professor at 44th International Winter Festival of Campos do Jordão (Brazil, 2013) and I International Percussion Festival Tomarimbando (2007, Portugal). He has worked in countries such as Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Portugal and Venezuela, performing premieres by composers such as Stockhausen, López López, Mantovani, Zampronha, Takemitsu, among others. He plays as a guest musician in several symphony orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of the State of São Paulo (OSESP). Has papers published in journals (Per Musi, Opus), plus resumes of scientific events in Brazil and abroad. He is currently Visiting Professor (Award Funarte) at UNESP, Cantareira College (SP) and founding member of the groups Durum Percussion Ensemble and Kontakte DUO.
Fernando was a Percussion Professor at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Goiás (IFG) and member of Impact(o) Percussion Ensemble and the Centre of Excellence for Teaching, Research and Performance in Percussion - CEP³.
